Carpet Cleaning in Trinity, Florida

Our favorite carpet maintenance tips revealed!

Many times we are asked what homeowners can do to help keep their carpets in the best shape possible in between professional cleanings.  We are going to share with you some of our most favorite tips to help you maintain clean carpets in between professional cleanings.

TIP #1:  Use Transition Rugs

Utilize throw rugs when tile and wood flooring transitions into carpeting.  Any loose dirt, debris and soils will collect in the transition rug before hitting the carpeting of our home.  Transition rugs are especially helpful in entryways, high traffic areas and doors used by family pets.

TIP #2:  Re-apply Carpet Protectors On A Regular Basis

Carpeting is a big investment.  Protect your investment by taking precautionary measures like applying carpet protector.  Spills and stains will not be able to settle easily when a barrier is in place.

TIP #3:  Remove Shoes

Most of the dirt that comes in your home enters through the front door on shoes.  Be proactive when it comes to your carpeting.  Insist on people removing shoes at the front door to help minimize soils and debris getting embedded into your carpeting.

TIP #4:  Fall In Love With Your Vacuum!

Does your home get a lot of foot traffic from kids and pets?  If you answered “Yes!”, consider upping your vacuum game.  High foot traffic homes should vacuum their carpets 2-3 times a week.  Your carpeting will see the most damage from sand and small pebbles being ground into carpet fibers.

TIP #5:  Schedule Routine Deep Cleaning Appointments

Depending on the foot traffic in your home, you should have your carpeting professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months in order to keep your carpeting looking its best and ensure a long lasting life.

Don’t Fall Victim to These Top Carpet Cleaning Mistakes

Our homes are one of our BIGGEST investments and if well maintained, they will last a lifetime and can even create a legacy!  In this month’s blog post, we will explore the top carpet cleaning mistakes and how to avoid them so you get the BEST performance out of your carpeting.

Mistake #1

Over-Shampooing.  This is a common mistake made by Do-It-Yourselfers.  This one mistake can result in shampoo buildup and residue.  This residue can actually attract dirt, making the carpeting look even dirtier.  Solution:  Contact a professional to get the job done.

Mistake #2

Over wetting carpet.  Another common mistake made by Do-It-Yourselfers.  When a carpet is over-wet, several things can happen including creating a breeding ground for mold and mildew and causing the carpet to shrink and lift from the floor.

Mistake #3

Staining.  In some cases stains can be caused by the furniture when it is returned to the carpeting without a protective layer.

Mistake #4

Furniture damage can occur if the furniture is not removed from the room prior to cleaning and if foam blocks or foil backed cardboard squares are not used to protect the furniture during the final drying stage.

Breathe Easier

As you probably already know, your home can be a HUGE trap for allergens!  But, there is a way to help reduce allergens and help you breathe easier.

Carpet

One of the biggest allergen traps and air filters in your home is your carpeting!  Carpeting can harbor irritants like dust mites, mold, mildew and fungi.  There is no need to suffer!  You can begin to breathe easier with proper and regular carpet cleaning.  Put it on your schedule to run the vacuum at the very least, one time per week to get the surface allergens up and out of your home.  For a deeper clean, have your carpeting professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months.  Both the hot water extraction method and the low moisture encapsulation method are very effective for removing common allergens found in your home.

Upholstery

Your favorite easy chair may not be making it easy for you to breathe!  The upholstery in your furniture can trap allergens and dust mites just as easy as carpeting can.  Be proactive.  Vacuum your upholstered furniture to help remove what is clogging up your breathing.  Consider having your upholstery professionally cleaned for removal of allergens.  Our low moisture encapsulation method might be the best deep cleaning solution for your upholstered furniture and to help you get rid of allergens

Mattresses

Start sleeping better at night.  Mattresses can also harbor dust mites and allergens.  Combat them by having your mattresses deep cleaned and specially treated to protect against dust mites.  Ask our technicians how we treat mattresses to keep the allergens away!

Is It Worth It? The Benefits Of Scotchgard

interior-design-332210_640We receive many questions about Scotchgard and what the benefits are to using it on your carpeting and upholstery.  This month, we are excited to share with you what we consider, are the major benefits of using Scotchgard.

Scotchgard FAQs:

What exactly is Scotchgard?

Scotchgard is a liquid teflon plastic which is diluted.  It is applied to carpets and upholstery after the cleaning process while carpets are still wet. Once the product is set, it acts as a barrier, helping to protect carpets and fabrics from soils.  Scotchgard is considered to be “set” when the carpet is dry.  It is best to wait until the carpet is dry before you walk on it.

So, does it really work?

The short answer is YES, it works as a fantastic soil retardant.  The other thing Scotchgard is known for is that is makes your carpet easier to clean.

What does Scotchgard protect against?

Scotchgard can protect your carpeting, fabric and upholstery from things like soft drinks, coffee, foot traffic, pet accidents and normal wear and tear.

sofa-186633_640How often does Scotchgard need to be re-applied?

Since the product sits on top of fibers, it will need to be re-applied periodically.  How often you re-apply will determine the amount of traffic and wear and tear your carpeting receives.  For best results, we recommend that Scotchgard be re-applied every 6-12 months.

Carpet Spots and Stains – Are they the same?

ccs-wednesday-12-14-16-canvaOften times, people use the words spots and stains interchangeably when actually, they are very different.  Curious about the differences?  Read on!

SPOTS:

Typically, a spot is something that is spilled onto carpeting that can easily be cleaned up and does not chemically bond to carpet fibers.  Spots do not have the ability to cause permanent damage.  For the most part spots are easy to see and organic in nature.  In most cases, a spot can be easily vacuumed up or cleaned up through blotting and other carpet cleaning techniques.

EXAMPLE:  Think food spills, dirt and debris brought in from traffic.

STAINS:

These are spills that have a larger, more devastating impact on the carpet.  Stains will permanently damage or change the carpet.  Most of the time, stains can be hard to see, especially if they are oil based. Initially, stains may look like a spot, dirt or dust that needs to be cleaned up with a vacuum.  What is difficult to see however is that the dirt and dust is actually clinging to the stain.  Once the dirt is cleaned up, the stain is more visible, you will actually see the change in carpet color, a color change that cannot be reversed.

EXAMPLE:  Think devastating spills, like bleach.

Confused as to what you are seeing is really a spot or a stain? Keep this in mind…

The best way to tell if the soiled carpet is a spot or a stain is to determine if the tint or hue of the carpeting has changed.  If the carpet’s hue or color has changed, it is a stain.  If it changes the color of the carpeting like coffee or wine would, and can be removed, it is probably a spot.

What is Carpet Buckle and How Can I Fix It?

CCS 7 15 15 canvaThe following may have happened to you or someone you know!  You anticipate the BIG day!  The day you scheduled to get your carpets cleaned.  You wait in anticipation because you know the end result will be a pristine, fresh smelling, clean floor you can proudly wiggle your toes in!  After the carpet cleaning service leaves, you notice something a little off.  A bump or ripple appears in your carpeting.  After closer inspection, you realize your carpeting is buckling!

HOW and WHY Does this Happen?

When carpeting ages and experiences wear and tear (especially in high traffic areas) the padding under the carpet begins to fall apart and disintegrate.  When the padding begins to fall apart, the carpeting begins to stretch in the area where the padding was present.  Now add cleaning solutions, water and the movement of the carpet cleaning machine to the situation.  The carpet begins to stretch even more.

HOW Do I Fix It?

CCS 8 5 15There are a couple of remedies and precautions you can take to fix or avoid buckling after cleaning.

  • Prevent this from happening by opting for a low-moisture method of cleaning like encapsulation cleaning technology offered by Complete Care Systems.
  • Letting the carpet complete dry will allow for the carpet to shrink.
  • Make sure the carpet is completely dry before you allow anyone to walk on it
  • If the carpet is still showing a buckle or the buckle begins to grow, it may be time to have your carpet stretched and re-installed to compensate for the buckle.
